Meal Plan Monday 9/30/2013

Happy Monday!   I have to start by saying Happy of Happiest Birthday's to the best brother a girl could ask for...Happy Birthday Jeff!!!

Boy, we sure had a wet, wet, weekend, didn't we?!  My poor kiddos played some great soccer games on Saturday through the rain and the wind.  I was thankful they didn't play on Sunday, the worst of them all.
We had counted that last week we had a combined total of 7 soccer practices and 8 different soccer games.  One of my daughters had played 4 of those 8 games last week.
This week is, thankfully, a little more calm and a little more routine.

Monday:  Crockpot:  Brown Sugar & Maple Pork Roast
Tuesday:  Crockpot:  Roast with baked potatoes
Wednesday:  Garlic Lime Chicken Fajitas
Thursday:  Taco's
Friday:  Date Night
Saturday:  Steak, spaghetti, zucchini, garlic bread
Sunday:  Rotisserie: Chicken

I hope that everyone has a great week!  I am trying find some inspiration and motivation to complete some open ended projects around the house.  Having some stormy weather sure helps with getting the indoor projects completed.  :)

Ch-Ch-Changes....Ch-Ch-Chores

That's right folks.  We have had a good ole revamp to our chore chart.  In our home the chores are divided amongst the four kids and then every week we rotate the chores, to keep it fair around here.

Well, I had 4 calendars, 4 kids, 4x the clutter (which I'm trying to eliminate around here).  It was working, but not effectively.  It was always a battle to remember what week we were on and who was doing what.

I looked all over the Internet, Pinterest, Google...you name it, I searched it, all I wanted was ideas for a simple chore chart that would work for all four kids and be on ONE calendar!  I just couldn't find it.

I've been dwelling on this for a while now.  It wasn't until I was looking at a color wheel this last week, while picking out colors for a special girls bedroom, did I think about a chore chart...on a wheel!!

I'm feeling pretty proud of myself, just so ya'll know.

I sat down and wrote down everything I wanted to cover that the kids could do.  Now, mind you, the kids can do all these things.  However, I do not expect them to be p e r f e c t, but I do want them contributing to the house.   They all live here too.  My home is not a magazine home.   It may never be, as long as I have a family living it, making memories.   But I do want it tidy.

So, I started with 5 various circles.   I dug around the house looking for different plate, lids to pots, cups, bowls, to get 5 different sized circles.

I used some scrap booking paper that I already had at home and backed it with some poster board that I got from the dollar store for....$.50.  Love that deal.

I found the exact middle for each circle and poked a hole through the center.
I lined them all up and put a brad through each center.
Divided them into 4 sections.  This can easily be split in half for two kids, or thirds for 3 kids.  If you have more than 4, just make sure to write a little smaller.  :)  But it will work.

Now, I'll explain each circle.  Each one is regarding a room and that particular room's duties.

First:  Child's name

Second: Personal bedroom: Make bed, pick up toys, dirty clothes into the hamper (They all say the same thing)

Third: Kitchen: Wiping down the kitchen table, unload the dishwasher, load up the dishwasher, sweep the floor, wipe down the counters, package up the leftovers....

Fourth: Bathroom(s):  Sinks & Mirrors, sweep the floors, clean toilets, empty the trash cans, clean tubs/showers

Fifth: Room of the Week:   1) TV Room & help with laundry (sorting) 2) Playroom & Poop Patrol outside 3) Vacuuming the house 4) Trash & Recycling, Fold and put away the towels

Each week, the only thing that will spin is going to be the kids' names.  The Mister has pointed out that it's possible for the kids to "swap" chores or "switch" them to their siblings, so I've decided to glue the larger circles together to stop that from happening.

What chores do your kids do?   Do you have a chore chart for them?  How's that working for them and for you?

Aunt Lula's Zucchini Bread Recipe

Recipe swaps.  They used to be a very common thing when women would get together and share all their baking secrets.   Now with the day in the age of the Internet, blogs, Facebook, and Pinterest we still swap recipes, just in a different way.

I’d like to share with you the zucchini bread recipe that we recently inherited from The Mister’s Grandmother’s recipe boxes.   This came from her Aunt Lula.  I have been making bread like crazy with all the zucchini’s we’ve been getting from the garden.

Ingredients:

3 eggs
1 C of oil
2 C of sugar
2 C of Grated zucchini (1 medium-large zucchini)
2 tsp. of vanilla extract
3 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3 tsp cinnamon

Optional: ½ c chopped walnuts

Pre-heat oven to 325

Large Bowl:

Beat eggs until light and foamy.  Add the next 4 ingredients: oil, sugar, grated zucchini, vanilla extract.   Mix lightly, but well.

Medium Bowl:

Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and mix together.

Add the flour mixture to the eggs in the large bowl.   Mix well.

Lightly grease 2 bread pans.   Divide the batter into two equal parts, into the bread pans.

Bake for 1 hour.

**Test the bread by inserting a toothpick into the center of the loaf.  When it is done, the toothpick will be clean when you pull it out.

I have added 1/4 cup of coconut to the batter before.   I have also added 1 cup of chocolate chips.  There are a few other things that you could add too, like dried cranberries or raisins.

Have fun baking!

Meal Plan Monday 9/23/2013

Hello everyone!   Hope you all had a great weekend.   Did you stay dry?   We did, for the most part.   Although our Saturday was filled with soccer games; 4 games, 3 kids, 1 double header, it was busy and a lot of traveling, we got drizzled on a little bit but stayed dry for the most part.
Saturday evening I was able to slip away with 2 of my favorite girlfriend's for a few hours.  It is always good to have girl time.
Sunday was wet, windy and wet.  I stayed indoors and loved it.  I planned out the weeks meals and made about 4 loaves of zucchini bread to freeze for later in the year.  :)

Monday:  Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with Clam Chowder
Tuesday:  Slow CookerPesto Ranch Chicken
Wednesday:  Slow Cooker:  Salisbury Steak with mashed potatoes and peas
Thursday:  Slow Cooker:  Lemon and Garlic Chicken
Friday: Homemade Calzones
Saturday:
Grilled Steak w/ Green salad, garlic bread and mixed veggies

Sunday:  Slow Cooker: Tex Mex Chicken Wraps

We have a few games this week, along with cub scouts starting again, and I even have a Scentsy party this weekend.  It's been awhile since I've had a Scentsy party and I'm super excited about it.

I hope you all have a good week!  I have a couple of things that I am going to try and get up on the blog this week.  Wish me luck!  :)

Meal Plan Monday 9/16/2013

Good Morning friends!

I almost didn't get to my meal plan this week since we had some family in town.   You can see why here.
How many of you have sports taking over your life right now?   We do!   We have high school sports, plus 3 in recreational soccer.   We have a few games this week as well as practices, but we also have Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts for both the boys, as well as a few double headers this coming week.   Definitely a full plate!

The dinner's that I will be putting on our plates this week are going to be......

Monday:   Chicken Breasts
Side Dish:  Baby Squash w/ Basil & Feta

Tuesday: Crockpot:  Pot Roast
Side Dish: Mashed potatoes

Wednesday:  Chicken Breasts
Side Dish:  Pasta Primavera

Thursday:  Crockpot:  Chicken Cacciatore
Side Dish:  Grilled Zucchini

Friday:   Hamburgers/Hot Dogs
Side Dish(s):  Potato Salad w/ Watermelon

Saturday:  Spaghetti
Side Dish:  Garden Salad & Garlic Bread

Sunday:   Salmon Bake (with a mayonnaise and spice rub)
Side Dish(s):   Fresh Garden Salad and peas

I just realized that our meals were a little heavy on the chicken this week.   We are officially out of our beef, so we are just waiting patiently waiting for our new order to come in.   This is the first year that we have ran out of our beef before the next order has come in, so we are having a lot of chicken, pork, and fish.

I hope that everyone has a great week!!     I'll link up some of the recipes later in the week...come back and check them out on my recipe page.

A Beautiful Soul

I hope everyone has had a great weekend.   Ours was full of mixed emotions.   We had lots of family in town from Canada, Washington and California.   While it was great to see the family we haven't seen in a very long time.   There were still some sad moments.  Why?  All to remember, honor and celebrate THIS amazing woman!

We all have lots of wonderful memories of her.  Some that bring us laughter.  Some that brings us tears.  All that bring us joy.   Because for those of you that never got to meet this woman, I'm sorry.  Truly sorry.   For those of you that were lucky enough to have her in your life.  Please now that you were blessed.   Very blessed because Grammie was an exceptional soul.

Loving you always, miss you forever.

M. I. A.

It's been nearly a month since my last post.
I've been a little M.I.A.

You've noticed.
I've been asked why I haven't been blogging.

Well, truth is.  I'm tired.  Very tired.
We've been very busy.

Nothing with the house.
No new projects.
No new crafts.

Just family.
Spending lots of time as a family.
Appreciating each other.
Loving each other.

Vacations.
For the first time in 17 years, we took TWO!  TWO! 10 day vacations.
In the same month!!
That leaves no room for anything else.

We got back from vacation just in time to scramble for the first day of school.

Bubba has gotten so good this summer.  Doing doubles with Momma!

School.
Who said summer could end so quickly?
Who said these beautiful babies of mine could grow up faster than ever imaginable?

Bubba: 3rd Grade

Baby Girl: 5th Grade

Firecracker: 7th Grade
Hotrod:  Junior - 11th Grade
Schedules.
Our schedules.
Their schedules.
Combining the schedules.
It is NUTS!
We are pulled in every direction.
Four children on four different traveling soccer teams.

Soccer.
All 4 are playing soccer.

Work.
I have a new work schedule.
6am- 2:30pm
I love it.
I love that I am home in the afternoons with the kids now.
We are working on a good rhythm.
Just greasing the wheel right now.

I will be back.
I promise.
With all kinds of great projects.
Coming soon!

Stay tuned!
